Tips for a better green screen.

Green screen tips

 

    • the green screen should be free from folds or wrinkles

    • the green screen should be evenly lit with good soft lighting

    • after set up is complete test the RGB colour of a shot in an editor – Red -0 – Green 255 – Blue 0

    • if theres high motion it would be good for me to use a frame rate of 50p (Peter Jackson would always shoot 50p for Lord of the Rings that has a lot of Green screen, plus on a 25p timeline this would give benefit for slow motion up to half speed

    • shadows are not wanted, if you use spotlights you will get shadows, if your talent is too close to the backdrop you may get shadows.

    • my favourite tip is to use a small backlight on the subject with a magenta gel, as we know magenta is the opposite to green so a soft magenta light from behind the talent could help to suppress and green spill.
